JUNE (TREBER) KORPI

Went to Black Hills State in Spearfish for 2 years and waited tables at Terry Peak and the Highland Hotel.

Married David Treber (a Deadwood guy!) July 16, 1960.

Moved to Clarksville TN because David was with the 101st Airborne Division in Ft. Campbell KY.

We moved back to Lead and David started BHSC but was recalled because of the Laos situation. So…we moved to Seaside, California.

Home to Lead, and David and I attended college part time, because we had the two girls and no bucks. J

Got my BS in Education in 1970 and taught (mainly 4th grade) in Lead and Deadwood for 28 years, retiring in 1998. Couldn’t have asked for a better profession…I loved it. David worked for the Lead Fire and Police Dept., Black Hills Power and Light, and Homestake, retiring from there in 1997 after 25 years.

We have two married daughters (WY and CO) and two granddaughters.

We are in the process of moving to Spearfish, leaving our 3-generation Korpi home.

We will have our 40th anniversary this summer and are still best buddies. J

My sister lives in PA and brother in UT. My dad died in 1965 and mother in 1997.

I feel so fortunate to have been a part of the ‘Class of 58’ because very few classes have kept in contact like we have.

JUNE TREBER OBITUARY
June was born June 3, 1940, in Newell, SD, to John and Helen (Kumpula) Korpi. She graduated from Lead High School in 1958 and received her teaching degree from Black Hills State College. Her heart has always been in the Black Hills, and on July 16, 1960, she married the love of her life, David William Treber, in Lead, SD. June was a woman of character, integrity, passion, and service. She had a career teaching children to love learning in the Lead-Deadwood School System from 1970 to 1998. While she had a career teaching, she truly taught all others by example. June has left a loving legacy for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. She captivated those around her with her vigor for life. She took every opportunity to let her loved ones know how special they were in the form of notes, emails, cards, visits, and preserving memories. She and David moved to Spearfish in 2000 to spend their retirement years. She emulated patriotism and a love for God, as she was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
